The Vermont health department says there were 4 deaths and 101 new Covid 19 cases Monday, plus another 262 on Tuesday. There were 3 new positive tests for covid in Windham County. There were 8 deaths and 141 new Covid 19 cases in New Hampshire, with 3 covid positive tests in Cheshire County. In Massachusetts, there were 35 deaths and 907 new cases of the Covid 19 virus, with 2 deaths and 13 new cases in Franklin County.

Rescue Inc. has begun providing their Covid 19 testing and vaccination services. The testing was previously done by Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Over the past two years, the BMH Covid-19 Vaccine and Testing Team administered nearly 28,000 vaccines and almost 38,000 tests. Please continue to schedule vaccine and testing appointments using the Vermont Department of Health website – https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19.

A water main break shut down part of Brattleboro’s lower main street Wednesday afternoon. The 16- inch water main at the start of Route 142 Vernon Road shut down traffic while repairs were made. Traffic on Bridge Street to Route 119 in Hinsdale was also temporarily closed.

Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan is co-leading a bipartisan, nationwide investigation into TikTok. The A-G’s are concerned the social media app is providing and promoting its platform to children and young adults while use is associated with physical and mental health harms. Attorneys general across the country are examining whether the company violated state consumer protection laws that put the public at risk. The probe focuses, among other things, on the techniques utilized by TikTok to boost young user engagement, including increasing the duration of time spent on the platform and frequency of engagement with the platform.

Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy and Congressman Peter Welch are pleased to announce that USDA will be allotting $80 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to support innovation in the dairy industry. Each of the four Dairy Business Innovation Centers, including the Northeast Center, located at the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Farms and Markets, will be able to draw on the newly available $80 million to access up to $20 million. This funding is in addition to $18.4 million announced last fall which provided each of the three original centers, with annual budgets of $6 million.  The three original centers were also funded at $6 million each in 2020.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office warns citizens to avoid scam charities seeking to profit from the crisis in Ukraine. Bad actors may target well-intentioned people who simply want to make donations for Ukrainian relief.  In addition, while most charities are well-intentioned, some may not have the infrastructure needed to deliver the promised assistance to the people of Ukraine. Donors should take the time to research charities before giving.

The Vermont Army National Guard says nearly 400 soldiers are expected to return from deployments over the next several weeks starting on Friday. Most of the soldiers were deployed to Kosovo. The guard says soldiers from six units will return by early April. The guard says their return marks the conclusion of the largest Vermont Army National Guard deployment since 2010. It says they make up the final group of the 950 Vermont soldiers who left for deployments in 2021.
