90 new covid 19 cases were reported in Vermont Monday, with 14 in Windham County. The three day total in New Hampshire saw one new death and a thousand and 30 new covid cases, including 84 in Cheshire county. In Massachusetts, the Friday thru Sunday period brought 7 deaths and 4,464 cases of the covid virus, including 51 positive covid tests in Franklin County.
Brattleboro police are investigating a number of racially biased messages directed at the towns new police chief. The department says hate has no place in Brattleboro, and they thank residents for their numerous messages of support.
Brattleboro select board members tonight consider a pair of grant applications, and options for replacing a Western Avenue bridge near Melrose Street. The Selectboard members and Town staff will participate in the 615 meeting on Zoom and the public is strongly encouraged to attend and participate on Zoom. People who choose to attend the meeting in-person may do so in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center, where everyone will be required to wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing.
Vermont state police have promoter Lieutenant Barbara Kessler, commander of the Royalton Field Station, to captain and the co-director, Fair & Impartial Policing and Community Affairs at Headquarters. Captain. Kessler joins co-director Dr. Etan Nasreddin-Longo in leadership of the office. Kessler has served the people of Vermont for more than 24 years, graduating from the Vermont Police Academy in 1997.The co-directors of Fair & Impartial Policing and Community Affairs oversee the agency’s comprehensive program to ensure fair and impartial policing practices at all levels of the state police. These efforts include building relationships of trust with communities of color and other minority communities, diversifying the workforce, and improving cultural awareness.
A new report claims access to mental health services in Vermont
continues to be ranked first in the nation, The announcement was made in the annual report, State of Mental Health in America. Vermont mental health commissioner Emily Hawes says having equitable access to care is incredibly important, especially when facing the broader challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Supporting services for mental health is a large part of supporting the overall wellbeing of our community.” Vermont’s network of providers is supported through a variety of funding streams which require attention and continued prioritization, particularly as staff shortages in mental health agencies across the state strain the system. Keeping mental health services at the forefront of community care enables every Vermonter to access the help they need when they need it.
Governor Chris Sununu on Monday requested a federal disaster declaration for New Hampshire as a result of storms and flooding that happened July 29-August. 2, a week after he asked for one covering storms from mid-July. Sununu’s letter to Paul Ford, of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Boston, said roads and infrastructure were washed out in 35 communities across the state and forced some evacuations. The Governor said the first round of rainfall was preceded by four weeks of above-average precipitation in southwestern New Hampshire, which had already experienced record rainfall that exceeded 10 inches.
Vermont’s Agency of Transportation is accepting grant applications for the 2022 Transportation Alternatives Program. This year, funding of approximately $2.2 million is available for all eligible activities as described in the Vermont Transportation Alternatives Fall 2021 Application Guide at http://vtrans.vermont.gov. Applications are due by e-mail by Wednesday, November 24.
