A southern New Hampshire drought has worsened. while the remainder of the state continues to experience “Abnormally Dry” conditions. These conditions, a result of an exceptionally low snowpack this winter and lack of precipitation, have impacted rivers and streams, groundwater, soil moisture, and reservoirs. The Department of Environmental Services is asking those relying on private residential wells to begin conserving now. Vermont Congressman  Peter Welch and Vermont racial equity advocates gathered Thursday  in front of the Vermont State House to highlight the expected passage of the Justice in Policing Act by the U.S. House .The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, cosponsored by Welch and 230 other House members, includes important comprehensive reforms to hold police accountable, change the culture of law enforcement, and build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The Vermont Commission on Women just released a new data dashboard report focusing on the ways the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately and uniquely impacted women. For those who work in childcare and for those that rely on childcare to work, the loss of jobs and access have real and potentially lasting economic impacts for women. June 1st marked the first date childcare programs could reopen, but with limitations on numbers of children and challenging new health protocols. Some programs are closing, further limiting availability. Before COVID-19, over 70% of Vermont children 6 and under had all available parents in the labor force – the need for more quality affordable care is now likely greater than ever.

The NFL has advised its teams to expect an on-time start for training camps next month, league executive vice president/general counsel Jeff Pash said Thursday. For most teams, that means players will report no later than July 28 to begin preparing for the 2020 season. The Hall of Fame Game, the league’s annual preseason opener that was originally scheduled for Aug. 8, has already been canceled by the Pro Football Hall of Fame because of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s possible the four-week preseason will be shortened as teams focus on keeping their personnel healthy for the Sept. 10 start of the regular season.
