The Windham County Democratic Committee has begun the search for candidates to replace sheriff Keith Clark, who is stepping down in June.. Individuals who are interested in applying for this position should  e mail the committee at windhamcountydemocratsvt@gmail.com or send a letter of interest to P.O. Box 324, Putney, Vermont 05346.. For consideration, application materials need to be received no later than April 29th. The County Committee will submit their choice to Governor Phil Scott by mid May.

 

Vermont Emergency Management  Director Erica Bornemann has requested a Damage Assessment  from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to determine if the state qualifies for a federal major disaster declaration related to flooding on April 15.  The request asks for assessments in Bennington, Caledonia, Essex, Orange, Rutland, Washington, and Windsor counties. Vermont officials have initially identified more than $2-million in damages to public infrastructure around the state and assessments are on-going. To qualify for a declaration Vermont must show at least $1-million in response and public infrastructure recovery costs

 

The Hinsdale School District is looking for residents to serve on a Tuition Exploratory Committee. The charge of this committee is to explore the possibility of the Hinsdale School District accepting students from other towns. Letters of interest are needed by April 30.

 

Marlboro College  will offer a new undergraduate Data Humanist Certificate Program. The $30,000  National endowment for the Humanities grant will support development of a certificate program that provides clear links between humanities coursework and data-driven classes in mathematics, computer science, and biology. The certificate will involve taking two data classes, two humanities classes, and two designated “bridge” classes that are co-taught by faculty from both areas.  The program will be offered beginning in the fall of 2020.

 

New Hampshire. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan have reintroduced legislation that would require organizations spending money in federal elections to disclose their donors. The bill; would require organizations spending money in elections – including super PACs and certain nonprofit groups – to promptly disclose donors who have given $10,000 or more during an election cycle. The bill also includes provisions to prevent political operatives from using layers of front groups to hide donor identities.

 

Brattleboro Utilities Division crews will start Spring Flushing of the Town water mains on Thursday April 25, at 10:00 p.m. and continue through Saturday May 11. There will be some daytime flushing will continue throughout the weeks of May 13th and 20th  Customers are asked to check the flushing schedule closely as flushing causes water discoloration, low water pressure and in some areas, intervals of no water. Night flushing will occur from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Day flushing will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Brattleboro Colonels Softball team will host Mt Anthony this afternoon 345 air time on 99 5 The Beast. The Colonels baseball team will also host Mt Anthony.

 

The Boston Red Sox lost a 3-nothing lead, and were defeated by the New York Yankees 5-3. The Red Sox are idle today, and the Yankees host Kansas City.

The Boston Bruins are back even with Toronto after a 6-4 win. The series is ties at two games apiece.
