A recent law in Vermont may lead to $2 billion in housing infrastructure over the next ten years. The former Fairmont Speedway site in Fair Haven could be transformed into residential properties in the near future, facilitated by the Community Housing Infrastructure Program (CHIP). This program offers tax incentives to developers for constructing housing infrastructure, thereby reducing construction costs. Additionally, CHIP will enable smaller towns to assist in financing infrastructure projects. State officials anticipate that applications will be available by early next year.
The Brattleboro Department of Public Works announces that the Whetstone Pathway, located adjacent to the Brattleboro Food Coop and along the Whetstone Brook corridor, will be temporarily closed from Monday, July 21ST through Wednesday, July 23RD. Vermont’s Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers is suing his hometown of Glover regarding a contested section of road named after his family. In a lawsuit filed last month, as first reported by Vermont Digger, Rodgers asserts that a portion of Rodgers Road — which he claims has been in his family for over a century — ought to be private. This legal action follows the town’s decision in May to maintain control over Rodgers Road. Rodgers and his wife are now seeking a court order to prevent the town from making any alterations to this section of the road and to have it removed from the town’s highway records with the state, thereby designating it as a completely private road.
A Vermont hiker was rescued from Fall Mountain on Tuesday after suffering a heat-related injury, as reported by New Hampshire’s Fish & Game Department. Conservation officers received a call about the Bellows Falls Hiker at 5:00 p.m. A third-party individual informed them that they had spoken to the hiker, who indicated she was lost and feeling unwell. It was later determined that the 33-year-old hiker had become lost and had called a family member for assistance before her phone battery died. Authorities from various departments participated in a two-hour search and ultimately located the hiker. She was reportedly found by a conservation officer while checking ATV trails. The hiker was assisted off the mountain and transported to Springfield Hospital by ambulance.
