 Brattleboro’s Putney Road was closed for about 45 minutes Friday afternoon by a three car accident. There was no immediate word on injuries from police.

 

The Vermont Department of Public Service has extended the deadline for written public input  on how the state should distribute federal funding provided by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act . The IIJA can help  Vermont to upgrade it’s electric grid. The formula allows Vermont to receive about three million dollars a year.

 

Vermont electric utilities are alerting renters who are already receiving help through the Vermont Emergency Rental Assistance Program  that their payments will be reduced as of October 1, and  payments will end December 31.  Eligible renters who have not yet taken action need to apply now if they are struggling to pay existing and past bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This federal grant program has been critical to directly helping renters get through the lingering impacts of the pandemic. Any eligible amounts will only be covered for bills through the end of the year. In addition, on October 1, , assistance will be reduced from 100% to 70% .   

 The United Way of Windham County has received   a $254,000 grant from the Vermont Department of Health! Funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ), COVID-19 Health Equity fund. Thw money aims to address the  disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on populations that have been historically marginalized and underserved. Social categories of race, class, gender, and ability continue to be upstream drivers for achieving equitable health outcomes.

Sunday is the 21st anniversary of terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen is co sponsoring a resolution  recognizing September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance and encouraging the American public to volunteer in a charitable service of their choosing on or around the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.According to Shaneen, the resolution honors  first responders and  civilians who heeded the call to action to save lives and keep ther country strong.
