Vermont State Police have located the California individual accused of assaulting a nurse at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend prior to his escape from the facility on foot. Adam Rauch, a 22-year-old resident of San Diego, was discovered walking along Route 30 in Newfane at 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday. He was apprehended without incident by the Vermont State Police. Initially, law enforcement officials indicated that Rauch “might be experiencing a crisis and could pose a danger.”
A man accused of stabbing in Caledonia County was arrested in New Hampshire on Thursday morning. Brandon Lackie, 36, of Groton, allegedly stabbed John Faucette, 39, multiple times in the back on Monday at a residence on Tinkham Road and subsequently stole his truck. Faucette was hospitalized at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and is in stable condition. Lackie was located and arrested by the Haverhill Police Department and Grafton County Sheriff’s Office. He will face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, violation of conditions of release, and operation without the owner’s consent after extradition.
New leadership will emerge in the Vermont Senate for the upcoming legislative session, marking significant victories for Chittenden County. Sen. Phil Baruth will remain as Senate President pro tem, while Kesha Ram Hinsdale has been elected as the new Senate Majority Leader, defeating incumbent Alison Clarkson. Sen. Ginny Lyons has been nominated as the “Third member” of the Committee on Committees, collaborating with the Senate president and lieutenant governor. Governor Phil Scott expressed his anticipation of working with Senator Lyons and the Senate in January, despite their past differences. As a new Legislature prepares to take office, cannabis legalization remains a key issue for 2025, although Gov.-elect Kelly Ayotte has expressed her disapproval. Five months ago, the House set aside a Senate-approved legalization bill.

Two lawsuits regarding transgender girl athletes were in federal court hearings in New Hampshire yesterday. One lawsuit challenges a state ban on their participation in school sports, while the other addresses the right to protest their involvement on girls’ teams. The first case involves two transgender teens: one who played soccer this fall and another who intends to join the track team this winter. Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that these teens may try out for and compete on girls’ teams as they seek to overturn the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act for all transgender students in New Hampshire.
