There were no deaths reported, but a spike in Covid 19 cases in Vermont continues. 724 new cases of the virus were reported over the weekend, with 150 on Sunday. 7 new covid cases were reported in Windham County. New Hampshire reported one death, and  749 new covid cases, including 143 Sunday. There were 36 new positive covid tests in Cheshire county.In Massachusetts, there were 7 deaths and 2,450 new cases of the covid 19 virus, with 23 new positive tests in Franklin county.

 
 A Putney Teen Faces charges , after a Monday accident on Sand Hill Road in Putney. Vermont state police say  18 year old Oliver Field has been charged with aggravated assault, negligent operation ans leaving the scene of an accident. Police say the incident allegedly arose from a dispute between Field and another teen. Police say  Field allegedly struck the victim with his vehicle, as well as two other cars that were parked in front of him.   Field left the area in his vehicle, he was later located by Trooper’s and arrested. The victim was flown to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Arraignment is scheduled today’.

 Brattleboro select board members tonight will hear from community members about the town’s decision to move emergency medicine calls to the fire department, and end a yearly agreement with rescue inc. The board is tonight being asked to sign a one year contract with Golden Cross Ambulance to help the transition over to it’s new service. Board members will also be asked to reconsider a previous decision, which  called for a Harris Hill tribute artwork to be moved out of downtown for part of the year. The Vermont House is scheduled to consider a universal school lunch proposal today. advocates have been pushing the idea, as current rules which allow for universal meals in school expire at the end of the current school year year. If passed, the bill would affect about 250 children in the Windham Southeast supervisory union.

A president has been named for the newly established Vermont State University, which consolidates three state institutions. The Vermont State College System board   says Parwinder Grewal most recently served in leadership roles at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a new university created through the merger of three institutions. He has accepted the position effective July 1. Vermont State University — comprised of Castleton University, Northern Vermont University and Vermont Technical College — will welcome its first class in the fall of 2023

 The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation  has reached an agreement with Acadia Insurance Company. Under the terms of the settlement, the company will pay an administrative penalty of $85,000 and contribute $15,000 to the Vermont Financial Services Education and Victim Restitution Special Fund.  The settlement relates to the improper handling of Vermont workers’ compensation claims, including those filed by first responders for posttraumatic stress disorder, by Acadia’s third-party administrator W.R. Berkley Corporation. . DFR’s review of Vermont workers’ compensation claims handled by Acadia between 2015 and 2019 showed that BerkleyNet engaged in unfair claim settlement practices and violated Vermont’s Insurance Trade Practices Act in a vast majority of the claims it handled in Vermont involving PTSD.
