Vermont had no additional covid 19 deaths on Thursday, but had 98 new cases, including 4 in Windham County. New Hampshire reported 6 deaths and 110 new cases of the covid 19 virus, including 9 in Cheshire County. In Massachusetts, 22 deaths and 802 new covid 19 cases, with 5 new positive covid tests in Franklin County.

The Town of Putney Selectboard has scheduled a Special Election to elect two new selectboard members on April 26, by Australian ballot. At the Annual Town Meeting, Putney voters approved an article to expand the selectboard from three to five members with the two additional members serving two-year terms. By Vermont statute, the first-time town voters elect additional selectboard members, one new member will be elected to a two-year term and one new member will be elected to a one-year term. At the 2023 Annual Town Meeting, the one-year term converts to a two-year term. Accordingly, starting with the 2023 annual meeting Putney voters will select a three-year member and a two-year member each year. Candidates interested in running for these positions must submit a Consent of Candidate form to the Town Clerk by 5:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022. Early and absentee voting will begin no later than April 6, 2022.

Vermont congressman Peter Welch backed a major appropriation bill which passed the house. Included in the legislation is support for the Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program, and humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine. Senator Patrick Leahy is calling for action in his chamber saying it is in the interest of the American people that the Senate act quickly to pass this bill and send it to President Biden.

Registration is now open for the Southern Vermont Economic Summit. This day-long event will be held on Thursday, May 12th at the Grand Summit Resort at Mount Snow in Dover, Vermont. Registration can be found at www.SoVermontZone.com/Summit The theme is “Cultivate Change”. The 2022 Summit will feature a wide range of topics that are top of mind for southern Vermonters. Workshops and speakers will dive deep into development, refugees, housing, ARPA, and business succession and acceleration.

The New Hampshire Department of Safety announces that nearly a dozen members from its Division of State Police have completed the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement Project, a national training and support initiative for U.S. law enforcement agencies committed to building a culture of peer intervention that prevents harm. The designated instructors will now be tasked with providing ABLE training to all other New Hampshire state troopers. By demonstrating a firm commitment to transformational reform with support from local community groups and elected leaders, the Department joins a select group of more than 215 other law enforcement agencies and statewide and regional training academies across North America.
