Two deaths and 164 new covid 19 cases were reported in Vermont Wednesday, included in the total were 6 new covid cases in Windham County. New Hampshire saw 11 deaths over the past two days and is averaging about 500 new covid cases per day. The state did not provide a new case breakdown for Cheshire County on Wednesday. Massachusetts reported 14 deaths and 1,274 new covid cases with six new cases in Franklin County.

The Brattleboro Words Project has won an award from the Vermont Historical Society. The award recognizes one outstanding project in that field completed, released, published, or presented during the previous calendar year. The Brattleboro Words Project (BWP) is a community collaboration initiated in 2017 between the Brattleboro Literary Festival, Write Action, Marlboro College, Brooks Memorial Library, and the Brattleboro Historical Society. With the leadership of Lissa Weinmann, Jen Austin, and Mary Ide, the organizations rallied around the goal of preserving and celebrating the legacy of written
words, printing, and publishing in the region. The National Endowment for the Humanities, other foundations, local businesses, and community members provided funding.

A team of Green Mountain Power employees, including line workers and mechanics, left for Maine to assist Central Maine Power’s restoration effort after Tuesday’s powerful Nor’Easter knocked out power to more than 600,0000 customers across New England, more than 26,000 of them in Maine. GMP and Central Maine Power are part of the North Atlantic Mutual Assistance Group, which connects utilities so they can help each other recover from storm damage. The GMP team members left from district offices around Vermont and are working in the Portland area and could possibly be there through Friday.  

The Vermont Department of Health has confirmed a case of human illness due to West Nile virus. This is the first such case since 2017. A Chittenden County resident was diagnosed earlier this month with neuroinvasive disease – a more serious form of the illness which affects the nervous system. The individual was hospitalized but has since been released. West Nile virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. The virus has been found in all counties of Vermont. Most people who are infected do not become ill from the virus. 

The Vermont Agency of Transportation is now inviting all Vermont schools to name the State’s big orange snowplows and participate in Vermont Plow Day. AOT and schools across the state will celebrate Vermont Plow Day on November 17, at 9:00 a.m., when Maintenance District plow operators will visit students at each school that named a truck. Schools are invited to take photos of their students and staff with the plow truck and name sign. The fleet has 250 full-size plows, and the Agency aims to name every truck. and is asking schools to hold votes to name a snowplow that is maintaining Vermont’s highways.”

The Celtics lost to the Washington Wizards last night, 116-107. Jayson Tatum led Boston with 23 points. Boston visits Washington on Saturday, tip-off is at 5pm.

The Bruins lose to Florida last night, 4-1. The B’s are in Carolina tonight. Puck drops against the Hurricanes at 7pm.

The Astros tied the World Series up at a game a piece with a 7-2 win over Atlanta last night.
