Three deaths and 111 new covid 19 cases were reported in Vermont on Tuesday, with two deaths and two new positive tests reported in Windham County. There were 4 deaths and 227 new covid cases reported in New Hampshire. Cheshire county had 29 new cases of the virus.  In Massachusetts, 24 deaths and 1,453 new covid 19 cases, with 8 in Franklin County.

A nursing home and assisted living facility in Vernon is seeing additional covid 19 cases. According to the Vermont Health department web site, 28 residents at the Vernon Green Nursing Home and 11 residents at the Vernon Hall assisted living facility have tested positive for the covid virus. There have been two additional deaths reported over the past week, according to the state.

Steven Gordon, President & CEO of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital will be retiring effective April 30. In an email to the BMH Staff, Gordon said that after 45 years in healthcare, including eleven at BMH ‘he looks forward to spending more time with family. Over the next several weeks, the hospital’s Board of Director’s will be formulating the search process for a new CEO.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott has made a formal request for federal disaster funds to assist communities in Bennington and Windham counties in paying for repairs to public infrastructure damaged in floods of July 29 and 30, 2021. Local and state officials estimate communities in those counties suffered more than $4 million in damages to public infrastructure. The Federal Emergency Management Agency conducted a preliminary damage assessment with state and local officials shortly after the storm to verify indicators at the state and county level were met to allow the request to move forward.

Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan says his office has
filed a major consumer protection lawsuit against fossil fuel companies for deceptive and unfair practices. The lawsuit alleges past and ongoing violations of Vermont’s Consumer Protection Act, claiming Vermont consumers were given false and misleading information about the dramatic effects of these products on the climate. The lawsuit names as defendants Exxon Mobil Corporation, Shell Oil Company, Company, Sunoco LP, CITGO Petroleum Corporation, and related companies.

The Vermont Council on Rural Development has chosen Brian Lowe as their next Executive Director, a role he will assume on September 21, Lowe has held diverse roles with the City of Burlington. Most recently, he served as the City’s COVID-19 Response Leader, where he led the city’s pandemic response, Paul Costello had headed v c r d for more than two decades.

The Yankees hit 5 homeruns on the way to a 7-2 win over Baltimore on Wednesday. The Yankees and Orioles play again tonight, first pitch is at 7:05.
