Vermont State Police are investigating several reports of catalytic converter thefts at several common swimming holes along VT RT 30 near Williamsville Road and Quarry Road in Dummerston, VT.  In both cases, an individual went under the victim’s vehicle and utilized a sawzall or similar tool to cut off the catalytic converter from the vehicle. One vehicle involved had a Connecticut registration and the other was a Vermont registered silver 2008 Toyota Tacoma. Vermont State Police encourage individuals to be aware of suspicious people under vehicle’s or possessing sawzall style cutting tools in parking areas as there is a rising occurrence of the thefts of catalytic converters throughout the area. 

Vermont Senator. Bernie Sanders announced that a number of investments in Vermont projects that he requested were approved by Senate Appropriations subcommittees this week, paving the way for initiatives in the state to receive nearly $9.5 million in federal funding. Additional appropriations requests made by Sen. Sanders continue to make their way through the committee approval process. The action taken would meet needs across the state in areas relating to agriculture, energy, and the National Guard when approved by Congress. 

The Vermont Lung Association has kicked off the Vape-Free Schools Scholarship Fund, a new effort to fund schools’ implementation of the Vape-Free Schools Initiative so that more kids can access cessation, support and education. The scholarship drive seeks to raise funds to give schools across the country access to the program. With a cost of $400 per training seat, the goal is to raise $400,000 to serve 1,000 schools in need by the end of 2021. Through this scholarship drive, the Lung Association will enable faculty and students in Vermont to access the Lung Association’s proven vaping intervention and cessation programs. 

Vermont’s Working Lands Enterprise Board has money available for service provider organizations through the Working Lands Enterprise Initiative Program. Projects eligible for funding include the provision of direct technical assistance and/or indirect services to support the development of Vermont-based working lands businesses. Service providers, and regional programs are welcome to apply. Awards will range from $10,000 to $20,000. The application window for this funding opportunity opens August 13th. 

The New Hampshire Liquor Commission says it has generated an all-time high in total gross sales of $801 million during Fiscal Year 2021. That’s an increase of nearly 5%, or $35 million, over the previous year. The commission also took in a record $176.6 million in total revenue, a nearly 14% increase over the previous year.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation has awarded $3.3 million in grants to municipalities for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvement projects. The construction projects and planning grants aim to improve connectivity and safety for the traveling public and provide tangible economic benefits.

The Toronto Blue Jays rallied from a 5-run deficit in the 8th inning, thanks to George Springer’s 3-run homer and the ‘Jays go on to beat Boston, 9-8. Boston has an off day before hosting Tampa Bay on Tuesday. The Yankees saw their 5-game winning streak come to an end yesterday as Seattle shut-out New York, 2-0. The Yankees are in Kansas City tonight, first pitch is at 8:10.
