WTSA News For Your Wednesday, May 5th:

The Vermont Health Department reported 34 new Covid 19 cases Tuesday, including 4 in Windham county. There were 252 new Covid cases in New Hampshire, with four in Cheshire county. In Massachusetts, there were 5 deaths from Covid 19, and 718 new cases of the virus, including 3 new cases in Franklin County.

Vermont is leading the nation in the number of vaccines administered per 100,000 people but is slightly below the national average in the number of 18 to 29-year-olds getting the shots,

Nearly 95% of Vermonters over age 65 have gotten at least one dose but only about half of people under age 30 have been vaccinated or made an appointment to get a shot. Governor Phil Scott says the state needs to increase those numbers in order to hit the June first goal of having over 70% of eligible Vermonters vaccinated so that by July, enough of the state will be vaccinated for mandates and restrictions to be dropped. The state is hosting a number of pop-up clinics at colleges, worksites, fairgrounds and speedways that will allow walk-ins,.

Here’s another example of how a few pennies can make a difference. The Brattleboro Food Co-op’s round up for change program has donated over 72 hundred dollars to the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center. Customers were invited to choose to round up their purchases to the next dollar during the past month. Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center is located in Brattleboro and offers a wide range of nature and kid focused programming throughout the year. Learn more at: beec dot org

Brattleboro Town Clerk Hillary Francis is reminding pet owners that Vermont dogs and wolf-hybrids 6 months of age and older must be licensed, according to   Vermont State Law.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all licenses being renewed must be processed through the mail or online at www.brattleboro.org. Alternatively, you may drop your payment and forms in the Town Business drop box in the Municipal Parking lot, attached to the wooden light pole. Vaccination against rabies is required by Vermont Statutes before licensing.

Advance Vermont has launched MyFutureVT.org, the state’s first free online hub to provide Vermonters with the information they need to make informed and empowered decisions about their career and education pathways. With 30,000 fewer Vermonters working than before the pandemic, MyFutureVT fills an urgent need to connect those seeking work with the information, education, and supports needed to get back in the workforce. The site is  designed to serve communities who have historically faced significant barriers to accessing postsecondary education and workforce systems.
