One new death and 73 new cases of covid 19 in Vermont. The Health department says the numbers reflect changes from both Monday and Tuesday., as a reporting system was being updated.5 new positive tests were reported in Windham County. In New Hampshire, two new deaths and   362 new covid cases, with 14 new positive tests in Cheshire county. From the state of Massachusetts, 13 deaths and 1,370 new cases of the covid virus. There was one death and 6 new positive tests in Franklin County.

Four Area towns will vote on a school bond next month. The two-million dollar bond would fund improvements at Academy school in Brattleboro. Voters in Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford and Putney will hold a vote on May 11th from 10 AM  7 PM

The Vermont Department Of Health says beginning April 29th, vaccine registration will open to college students who are residents of another state and do not intend to stay in Vermont for the summer, as well as to people who live part of the year in Vermont. This opportunity will be based on the vaccine supply we receive from the federal government. Governor Scott believes that the CDC will resume distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine soon. An announcement on that could come as early as Friday evening.

In the wake of a Guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial, the Vermont Criminal Justice Council says it is taking actions to transform law enforcement through newly formed committees on professional regulation and hiring standards, as well as renewed commitment to fair and impartial policing, training curriculum development, and reimagination of staffing and resources. The council says leaders must continue to respect the humanity of those who have been harmed as well as those who commit to doing the work. The council is responsible for   law enforcement training, culture, policy, and accountability. It is chaired by former state Attorney General William Sorrell, and the co vice chairs are state equity director Xusana Davis and Windham County Sheriff Mark Anderson.

Senator Bernie Sanders is co-sponsoring   the College for All Act to open up the dream of a college degree to millions of working-class children. The legislation would make the most substantial federal investment in higher education in the modern history of the United States and its transformative potential is on par with President Lyndon B Johnson’s Higher Education Act of 1965. The legislation if passed would guarantee tuition-free community college for all students and allow students from families earning under $125,000 a year to attend public colleges and universities tuition-free and debt-free.

Vermonters are urged to get rid of their unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday. Acting U.S. Attorney for Vermont Jonathan Ophardt says unused medication, especially highly addictive prescription opioids, are vulnerable to diversion, misuse and abuse. He says last year, 158 Vermonters died of opioid overdose, a 38% increase from 2019. The event is taking place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at over 55 locations around Vermont.
