Windham County had four new Covid-19 cases reported Sunday, according to the Vermont Department of Health. Statewide, there was one new death with 120 new cases. In New Hampshire, Cheshire county reported 35 new cases. Statewide, there were 808 new positive tests and 6 deaths. In Massachusetts, 8 new cases in Franklin County. Statewide, there were 67 new deaths and 3, 750 new cases

Today is the deadline to file consent forms to get on the ballot for local elections in all Vermont towns. Nearly all Vermont towns hold select board and school board elections the first Tuesday in March. This year, the Vermont Legislature said petition signatures were not needed. instead, a one-page form must be filed with your town clerk by 5 Pm In order to get on the March ballot.

Some Vermont National Guard soldiers returned home Sunday, but the rest plan to stay in Washington for another month. The Guard says it’s been asked to continue to support security operations in the Nation’s Capitol. Pending Governor Phil Scott’s approval, most of the more than 100 soldiers will remain in D.C. until late February. About 30 soldiers returned to Camp Johnson Sunday evening. On Tuesday, another 30 soldiers will board busses to Washington to replace them.

Starting today, Vermonters 75 and over will be able to get an appointment for a Covid-19 vaccination. A web site and a phone number will be announced today by the Vermont Department of Health, with vaccinations taking place on Brattleboro and many of the other larger towns beginning Wednesday. After this round, the state will open appointments to those 70 and over, and then 65 and over.

New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen has the introduced the bipartisan Drug-Free Communities Pandemic Relief Act, The legislation would provide flexibility to Drug-Free Communities (DFC) coalitions during the COVID-19 pandemic by temporarily allowing the Office of National Drug Control Policy the authority to waive the program’s local matching requirements. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has increased the level of the substance use disorder epidemic, making it more critical than ever to ensure coalitions can weather this crisis and continue to educate and empower young people on the risks of substance abuse.

Vermont Anglers spent an estimated 2.1 million days fishing in 2019, and fishing quality throughout the state was rated higher in 2019 than in 2009. State Fisheries Biologist Bret Ladago says there was a decrease in the total number of days anglers spent fishing, but 2020 marked the highest number of resident Vermont fishing licenses sold since 1992.   This was the fourth statewide angler survey as part of a long-term effort to gauge angler opinions.

A federal appeals court has upheld a lower court ruling that allows New Hampshire to continue selling lottery tickets online. The case involved a 2018 Justice Department opinion holding that the 1961 Wire Act applied to any form of gambling that crosses state lines. That raised concerns about the viability of online poker and other gambling across states, as well as state lotteries. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the New Hampshire Lottery, holding that the Wire Act applies only to wagers on sporting events, not state lotteries. Gov. Chris Sununu called the ruling a victory.

Super Bowl 55 is all set. The most unusual season in NFL history will end with something else that has never happened. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will become the first team in NFL history to compete for a Super Bowl in it’s home stadium. Tampa Bay hung on to beat Green Bay 31-26, while Patrick Mahomes cruised to a 38-24 win over Buffalo Sunday Night. The game is February 7th.

Jaylen Brown scored 33 points, and the Celtics snapped a 3 game losing skid as they thumped Cleveland Sunday, 141-103. Boston is at Chicago tonight, tip-off is at 9pm.
