Two new Covid 19 positive tests were reported in Vermont Tuesday, for a state total of 1.721 with 58 deaths. Windham County remains at 123 positive tests and 3 deaths.

38 new positive test results for COVID-19 were announced in New Hampshire, with a statewide total of 7,990 and 438 deaths. There was one new case in Cheshire County, for a total of 143 with 3 deaths.

The death toll from confirmed coronavirus cases in Massachusetts rose by 11 to 9,118. The number of confirmed cases climbed by 143, bringing the total to 125,866.  Franklin county had one new positive test, for a total of 404 with 67 dead.

Brattleboro police are investigating a fatal accident on Upper Dummerston Road. Officers responded at 730 pm Tuesday for a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The operator, whose name is being withheld until next of kin can be located, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Upper Dummerston Rd. was closed in the area for several hours to allow an investigation, and to remove downed wires. Anyone who might have information on the crash is asked to contact police.

Vermont has seen a small number of COVID-19 cases in schools. Health Commissioner Mark Levine says none of the people who tested positive got the virus due to being in school.  The Health Commissioner says adherence to physical distancing and masking guidance have been and remain critical strategies for students and staff to continue using. Levine reminded caregivers to be aware of any possible symptoms that may be outside the norm for your child — a headache or cough or congestion, however mild. Keep them home, and if the symptoms persist, call your child’s pediatrician for advice. 

Vermont Secretary of Education Daniel French says all schools will be placed in Step III of the safety and health guidance as of Saturday, Sept. 26. The change will allow school gyms to be open, and athletic events under state guidelines to be held. The designation allows Vermont schools “additional flexibility” on how to implement the rules

The Vermont U S Attorney’s office says 27-year old Mark Anthony Eusebio, aka “Slim,”, of New York City, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to distribute and distribution of 28 grams or more of cocaine base. On September 4, 2020, Eusebio and a criminal associate allegedly distributed approximately 74 grams of cocaine base to a confidential informant at the Vermont Welcome Center in Guilford, On Monday, law enforcement located Eusebio operating a Toyota Rav 4 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Agents arrested Eusebio, searched his vehicle. and found a Ruger handgun plus 60 grams of suspected cocaine base. Hidden elsewhere in the vehicle, agents located approximately 10 grams of suspected cocaine base and 20 grams of suspected fentanyl. 

The Vermont Senate has joined the house in overriding Governor Phil Scott’s veto of the Global Warming Solutions act. The new law will set pollution standards to be determined by an appointed climate council. The Senate vote Tuesday was 22 for and 8 against the override.

The Vermont House advanced a comprehensive racial justice package designed to address community concerns regarding the corrections system, police brutality and violence.   n Corrections and Institutions committee member Sara Coffey of Guilford says part of the package aims to address systemic racism and promote social equity within the Department of Corrections by focusing on training and supervision practices Other parts of the package deal with a statewide policy for the use of deadly force by police, and additional  policies and training, within the larger issue of systemic racism and the experiences of  Vermonters of color.

Nick Pivetta struck out eight in five innings of one-run ball in his Boston debut, Christian Vazquez hit a three-run homer and the Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-3 on Tuesday night. Boston and Baltimore play again this evening, Nathan Eovaldi on the mound for Boston, first pitch is at 7:30.

 

Gerrit Cole limited the Toronto to five hits over seven innings in his final preparation for the playoffs, and Aaron Hicks drove in three runs in a 12-1 rout over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night.

The Yankees and ‘Jays play tonight, Masahiro Tanaka on the mound for New York, first pitch is at 6:35.

 

The Celtics and Heat resume their Eastern Conference Finals tonight with Miami leading 2 games to 1. Tip-off tonight is at 8:30.
