Vermont has 7 new covid 19 cases, for a total of 988, and still 81 Windham county residents had a positive test for the virus. Statewide deaths remain at 19, with 10 people hospitalized under investigation, and another 28 being monitored at home. 

New Hampshire has 65 new positive test results for COVID-19.and a total of 4,749. There were no additional cases in Cheshire county. There were 11 new deaths for a total of 256. 97 people are in the hospital.

Vermont’s Local Support and Community Action Team has released its interim report for economic and social recovery. The Team was charged by Governor Scott with identifying and replicating regional and community recovery initiatives and gaps in recovery efforts to ensure equitable distribution of resources, especially in rural areas and underserved populations. The report’s recommendations include ending family homelessness, increase local food programs, support of childcare programs, expand business loans and grants, a buy local challenge, and expanded broadband internet service. Next steps for the Action Team include regional meetings to deepen understanding of varying needs across Vermont.

The Town of Putney has a BOIL WATER ORDER in effect, until further notice for water users. The impacted area is in the vicinity of 94 Main Street adjacent to the Putney Post Office on Main Street (Route 5) south to the Sunoco Station in Dummerston, Vermont. This boil water order is for all water users on the system impacted by the water line break that occurred on Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m. The water service line was repaired early Monday, J. If you were without water on Sunday evening the BOIL WATER ORDER pertains to you.  The boil water order will remain in effect until further notice. If you are a tenant and you are not sure you are impacted contact the Town Manager at 387.5862, extension 11.  

The Windham County Sheriff’s office is resuming all civilian fingerprinting services by appointments, with cleaning protocols and a health screening questionnaire prior to being fingerprinted. People will need to bring and wear a mask and a pen to write with, as they will not be provided. Appointment offerings will be expanded to accommodate the back log.  Their lobby will be opening as well with limited occupancy. Deputies will continue to physically respond to emergencies where life, limb, or property are in jeopardy. Deputies will continue to handle non-emergency calls via electronic communication when possible. To minimize exposure to surfaces, they may request people meet outside of their homes or businesses. Deputies may be wearing personal protective equipment such as gloves or masks as a precaution.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott will form a Racial Equity Task Force as a component of a broader state effort to promote racial, ethnic and cultural equity, including in its response to COVID-19. The Task Force will evaluate structures of support for racially diverse populations, including a focus on the racial disparities in health outcomes highlighted by COVID-19. The task force will also review current state and federal law on hate speech and freedom of speech, and present options to encourage Vermonters from diverse, marginalized or underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to run and serve in public office at all levels. Recommendations will be submitted to the Governor on the first project by August 15 and preliminary recommendations on the second and third by December 15. 

The Keene Fire Department reminds residents that the sale, transfer, display or possession of any class B special fireworks or class C consumer fireworks is not allowed without first obtaining a permit for sale, possession and display of fireworks from the city council.  Nationally, Fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year, including 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and 16,900 outside and other fires.

As the NBA models a 22-team format for the season’s proposed resumption beginning July 31 in Orlando, Florida, a timeline shared with teams as a last possible date for a Finals Game 7 lands on Oct. 12, sources told ESPN. Commissioner Adam Silver is expected to have a proposal to take to a vote of the NBA’s board of governors on Thursday, sources said. The expectation is that the NBA draft and the opening of free agency would follow in sequential order in October, sources said.
