Brattleboro Police say a 9-year old child was approached on Ceder street by an adult offering a ride, while on his way to Green St School. The child said “no”, the child reported that the driver said “I have candy.” The child then ran away and got to Green St School safely. There is no information that the person exited the vehicle, made any attempt to grab the child, or made any threatening statements. The person is described as a white male in his mid 50’s, with curly brown hair, grayish sideburns, brown beard, wearing a leather jacket. The vehicle is described as a dark color Nissan sedan with unknown NH registration, and has a red, white, and blue punisher sticker on the driver’s side rear bumper. Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Ryan Washburn at 802-257-7950.

 

A motorcyclist injured in an October 13th accident in Dummerston has died. Vermont state police say 67-year old Hermis Yanis of Dennis Mass died on Monday at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he’d been a patient since the crash. His passenger, 62-year old Deborah Cote of Worcester, is listed in stable condition at the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester. Cote is recovering from several broken ribs and internal injuries. 

 

The U S Attorney’s office says 38-year old Christopher Paige, Jr., of Bellows Falls, has been sentenced to 102-months in jail. Paige had pleaded guilty to one count of possessing with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of a substance containing fentanyl, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal Judge William Sessions III also imposed a four-year term of supervised release to follow Paige’s incarceration. Court records show that Paige admitted to distributing a substance containing fentanyl in late 2017 out of his Bellows Falls residence.

 

New Hampshire’s annual moose hunt is underway through October 27. A total of 49 permit holders were drawn in this year’s lottery, randomly selected by computer from a pool of more than 5,800 applicants. Also, one charitable permit each was issued to the New Hampshire Wildlife Heritage Foundation and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation Dream Hunt program. The moose hunt has been an annual event in New Hampshire for more than 30 years. The state’s first modern-day moose hunt took place in 1988.

 

Vermont will host a regional transportation safety conference next week. More than 150 people from across the region will attend the   Conference on October 28 and 29 in Burlington. 30 employees of the Vermont Agency of Transportation will be on hand for the discussion of engineering, education, law enforcement, and emergency medical services Geared toward the reduction of fatalities and injuries on our roadways.

 

Organizers for the ongoing demolition of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant say the project is about six months ahead of schedule. NorthStar CEO Scott State announced his company will easily complete the project ahead of the 2030 deadline while remaining on budget. The demolition of the plant that closed in 2014 after operating for 42 years has been divided up into three, two-year segments. The CEO credits the New York-based company’s planning and safety culture for being ahead of schedule. The company recently reached 220,000 hours on the site with no “lost-time accidents. NorthStar purchased the plant from Entergy Nuclear in January and their partner has already began cutting up the nuclear reactor’s internals and preparing them for shipment to a waste site in Texas.”

Twenty-year old Juan Soto of the Nationals homered and hit a two-run double to lead Washington to a 5-4 Game 1 World Series victory over Houston Tuesday night. Game 2 is tonight with Justin Verlander of the Astros facing Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals, first is at 8:05.

The Boston Celtics begin the 2019-2020 season in Philadelphia tonight, tip-off is at 7:30.

David Pastrnak scored his league-leading 10th goal and added an assist as the Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2 on Tuesday night.

 Locally: Arin Bates scored with just 12 minutes left, with an assist by Isabelle Ameden, to give the No. 3 Leland & Gray varsity girls soccer team a 1-0 win over Green Mountain in a Division 3 playoff game on Tuesday.
