Vermont State Police have identified a Landmark College student as the operator involved in Saturday’s hit and run crash on Route 5 in Dummerston. The operator involved was identified as 21 -year old Jakob Morrissey, of Philadelphia, PA.  Morrissey was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident. He was released to the custody of his mother and will be arraigned December third.

 

Utility crews continue to restore electrical service lost by this week’s storm. Green Mountain Power last night said about 48 hundred customers remain without power, and most will be restored by late today. New Hampshire Emergency management says about 25 hundred residents remain without service.

 

The Vermont State Police was notified of a pumpkin being thrown through a window of a building owned by the Town of Jamaica.  The building incurred window damage and town officials are hoping someone saw something related to this incident.  The incident most likely occurred within the month of October. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-722-4600.

   

The Brattleboro literary festival is underway through Sunday. The festival honors those who read books, those who write books, and of the books themselves. Located all over downtown Brattleboro, the festival includes readings, panel discussions, and special events, featuring emerging and established authors. The schedule of events is available at Brattleboro Literary Festival dot org.

 

The Vermont Economic Development Authority approved over 25 million dollars in loans for business in the state during the last three months. The businesses funded included Magic Mountain Ski Area in Londonderry. Their owners secured partial financing from VEDA to help install a new chairlift and purchase equipment to support its growing customer base and need for increased operations. VEDA also approved energy loans for Green Lantern Development L L C. The full-service solar development company has developed over 60 solar projects in Vermont, VEDA has supported five of its solar projects this quarter. The company expects to develop another 20 solar projects by years end.

 

Vermont will get 1 point 37 million dollars as part of a multi-state settlement with Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary Ethicon. The settlement involves claims of misrepresenting the safety and effectiveness of transvaginal surgical mesh devices and failing to sufficiently disclose risk associated with their use.  41 states, including Vermont, and the District of Columbia will be paid a total of $116.86 million. Restitution for affected consumers is still pending in class action cases.  

 

An assessment team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. will arrive October 28, 2019 and will stay on site at the Keene Police Department until October 30, 2019.  The purpose of this on-site assessment is to examine all aspects of the Keene Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. This is the Department’s third on-site assessment since its involvement in this voluntary program. For those who would like to provide comments to the assessment team, you may do so by telephone.  The public may call 603-757-0620 on Tuesday October 29th, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

George Springer and Carlos Correa each hit three-run homers and the Houston Astros got another wild ace off the hook to beat the sloppy New York Yankees 8-3 Thursday night and reach the cusp of a second World Series visit in three years. Game 5 is tonight with James Paxton of the Yankees facing Justin Verlander of Astros, first pitch is at 7:05.

 

Steven Stamkos scored the lone goal in the shootout and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Boston Bruins 4-3 on Thursday night.

Thursday Night Football last night saw the Kansas City Chiefs thump the Denver Broncos 30-6. The Chiefs lost star Quarterback Patrick Mahomes to injury in the first half. How long Mahomes will be out for remains to be seen.
