The10th annual Brattleboro retreat ride for Heroes takes place today. The event is a fundraiser for the Retreat’s Uniform services treatment program. More than 200 motorcycles will be on several roadways around Windham County , beginning at 10 A M.
A multi week repaving of the Interstate 91 Guilford Welcome Center has been completed, and the center has been reopened to traffic. The Vermont Agency of Transportation says their contractor, Bazin Brothers, finished their work Friday afternoon, and now trucks busses and R V’s are able to use the welcome center. A temporary rest stop at the Massachusetts Vermont border has been closed.
The U S Energy Information Institute says Vermont consumes almost four times as much energy as it produces, but total energy consumption is the smallest of all the states. Nearly 6 out of 10 Vermont households heat with petroleum, 2 out of 10 rely on natural gas, and almost 1 out of 7 burn wood for heat. Renewable resources—primarily hydropower—provided over 99 percent of Vermont’s electricity generation in 2018, the highest share for any state. Last year,, Vermont’s five utility-scale wind farms accounted for 17% of the state’s electricity net generation.
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu has vetoed a proposed change in the state’s election law. Supporters say the Senate bill would have clarified that service personnel, medical professionals, members of our armed forces, and students that contribute to our economy, pay taxes, and reside in New Hampshire would have the right to vote there. Senator Marie Levesque claims the Governor has, with the veto, put politics before the constitutional rights of Granite Staters.”
Kevin LaChapelle has been appointed as the Assistant Director of New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management. LaChapelle has over 25 years of experience in emergency services, most recently serving as the Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director for the City of Franklin, New Hampshire. The appointment was announced Friday.
