WTSA News for Wednesday, June 5th:
Vermont state police have identified the driver of a fatal car crash in Westminster last month. Police identified 16-year old Owen Perry of Westminster as the driver of a car that went off Morse Brook Road and hit a tree on May 18th. 15-year old Vincenzo Ruggiero of Saxtons River died after being taken to the Dartmouth Hitchcock medical center that evening. The mishap remains under investigation.
Brattleboro police say bear sightings are on the increase. Please take in your bird feeders and don’t leave trash where wild animals can get to it. Once a bear has you noted as a reliable food source, it’s very hard to get rid of them.
A Slow Living Summit takes place on Thursday and Friday in Brattleboro, with the future of women in food entrepreneurship as it’s theme. The event’s goal is to help women and men in the food industry have the tools and mentorship needed for success. Panelists include author Winona La Duke, and former Vermont Gubernatorial Candidate Christine Halquist.
Contractors working for the City of Keene will begin replacing the last of the paver crosswalks on Thursday morning, the work will require temporary traffic control at the intersections of Gilbo Avenue and Main Street, Church Street at Main Street, and at Diphthong Alley. Motorists should use extra caution and follow the directions of traffic control personnel when traveling through the work zones
Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan says the second Forum for a Hate-Free Vermont will take place at Hartford High School in White River Junction on June 13th. The Forum was organized in conjunction with the Vermont NAACP, the Vermont Partnership for Fairness and Diversity, the chair of the Racial Disparities Panel, and others. Organizers want to encourage and facilitate community conversations about bias incidents and hate crimes in Vermont. Community members are encouraged to attend to tell their stories, learn, provide support, and share in a vision for a hate-free Vermont.
Former Vice-President and democratic presidential front-runner Joe made stops in the Granite State Tuesday, including a town meeting in Berlin. Berlin, New Hampshire, is known as “the city the trees built.” So, it’s only fitting that former Vice President Joe Biden started his stump speech there talking about climate change. The intimate, yet crowded auditorium on Main Street in downtown Berlin is within eyesight of an old paper mill that has been converted into a biomass plant. Biden has been the clear front-runner in the race since he announced his bid for the democratic nomination. Polls show Senator Bernie Sanders consistently trailing him in second place. This is Biden’s 2nd trip to New Hampshire since formally announcing his run. He had other scheduled stops in the Plymouth and Concord.
