Brattleboro’s winter Overflow Shelter will close for the season next Monday, and the community remains without a permanent home for the Shelter next season. Groundworks Collaborative will host the seventh annual Camp for a Common Cause on the Brattleboro Common May 17..  All the  funds raised  support Groundworks’ efforts to house people experiencing homelessness. Campers, and those wishing to make a contribution to a participating camper or team, should visit GROUNDWORKSVT.org and click on the EVENTS tab to register.

 

Vermont Governor Phil Scott has handed out nearly $2.2 million in federal funds for municipal grant projects under the Transportation Alternatives Program for stormwater quality improvements across Vermont.  The projects include  the replacement of a corrugated metal culvert with a larger concrete box culvert on Mountain Road in Stratton. In all. projects in 12 Vermont communities were funded. –

 

Registration is now open for Brattleboro’s ninth  annual Slow Living Summitt, June 6 and 7.. This years theme  is “The Future of Women in Food Entrepreneurship” and its goal is to bring together diverse groups, providing them with tools, resources, and mentorship for success.  Speakers include economist, author and Honor the Earth co-founder Winona LaDuke, former Vermont gubernatorial candidate Christine Hallquist ,  and Principal Founder of Breakthru Beverage, Charles Merinoff. Vermont Attorney General T J Donovan says his office has established a page on it’s web site dedicated to environmental protection. Donovan says the climate crisis is real, and his team remains   committed to protecting  Vermont’s environment from harm, but we all have a role to play.  The A G is asking  every Vermonter to think about our environment, think about our planet, and take a moment to find a way to do your part.

Contractors working for Liberty Utilities will continue replacing gas mains in and around Marlboro Street in Keene this week  Much of this week’s work will focus on the area surrounding Wheelock Elementary School. Other areas under construction will include the intersections of Prescott Street and Baker Street. Crews will begin replacing gas mains on Richardson Court during next  week.
